Getting into college

help you achieve your educational goals.
General Advice for Freshman Year
o Make sure you take college preparatory classes.
o Begin visiting local community
colleges, state universities, and independent colleges or universities.
General Advice for Sophomore
Year
o Register for the PSAT/NMSQT.
o Take the PSAT (given only in
October)
o Take SAT II Exams in the courses which you have completed.
General Advice for
Junior Year
o Register for the PSAT/NMSQT.
o Take the PSAT/NMSQT.
o If you are taking AP courses, make sure you register to take the AP Exams in Spring.
o Begin visiting the
colleges that interest you.
o Take SAT II Exams for the courses you have completed.

Advice for Senior Year
o Review your list of target schools; make sure to include
one safety school in your list.
o In early September, register for the SAT I and/or the ACT.
o Take the SAT
II Exams for the courses you have completed.
o If you are taking AP courses, make sure you register to take the exam
in Spring.
o APPLY! APPLY! APPLY! December is an important time for "early consideration" applications,
merit scholarships, and deadlines for state universities.
